Dear Partner,
We’ve been busy working on a number of enhancements to our services in recent weeks, so time for a quick news update!
Old Webmail Platform finally closing
Having been officially unsupported for the last decade our legacy webmail, based on Roundcube, will finally be removed at the end of April. Once it has been taken down URLs pointing there will be redirected automatically to mail.overssl.net which has no branding.
Introducing IMAPSync
One of the greatest barriers to changing email service provider, even when customers are receiving a poor service, is worry about the potential loss of old emails and issues around migrating their legacy email across to a new provider.
In the past we’ve suggested the use of our MessageBunker email archiving platform to create an archive of their existing email, before subsequently ‘restoring’ to new mailboxes hosted on our platform. This works well, but involves several steps, and a certain level of technical confidence.
We’re delighted to announce the launch of a simple and effective new tool: IMAPSync.
To move a customer across, set up their new mailboxes as normal. Once the mailbox has been set up IMAPSync can be accessed via your VISP Control Panel, or via the Control Panel at account level. Select the relevant mailbox and you should see a new option called IMAPSync at the right hand end of the mailbox management options.
Select IMAPSync and populate the fields with the details of the mailbox they are moving from – so previous email hosting provider’s IMAP Server address, the mailbox email address and the relevant password for their legacy mailbox. There’s a fourth field where you can stipulate the address you want the confirmation email sent to once the process is complete, with a log of the actions taken. If the Synchronisation fails then you should be able to see the reason from that log, make any changes, and synchronise again.
We believe this will make the process of onboarding new email accounts onto our platform a simple, safe and highly effective one. Please give it a go next time you are migrating customers across and let us know how you get on!
Please note that it can take some time to fully migrate the contents of a mailbox, depending on size of mailbox, speed of connection etc. At any time you can stop the process and restart it again without any danger of duplication.
And while we’re here: Resetting Passwords…
We’ve also added a new feature to empower users to reset their mailbox passwords.
Your users might notice that when they login to our webmail next time, they will be asked to provide a mobile phone number. This is to help us handle lost passwords as we’ve also introduced a ‘Forgotten Password’ option to the login screen, that does the usual thing of sending a 6 digit code to the user via SMS for them to reset their password.
Hopefully this will reduce the amount of support time you have to spend with customers that have forgotten their passwords and mitigate any potential security risks!
