MessageBunker FAQs
Technical/Setup/Usage
How many mailboxes can I archive? As many as you like, account permitting. We've designed MessageBunker with corporate use, as well as personal use, in mind.
If you have a server that supports SSL or TLS transmission for IMAP or POP3, you can set your mailboxes up to use it. That way all data will be encrypted during archiving.
We check your accounts every 5 minutes. If you find this unsuitable, you can set the frequency per mailbox to any of the following values: 5, 10, 15, 30 or 60 minutes. You also have the option to 'pause' an archive at any time.
The service supports any email server that allows access using the IMAP or POP3 protocol. That covers just about every email server available today including Exchange, Domino/Notes, Courier and many, many others. Our web-based 'control panel' works with Internet Explorer 6/7/8/9, Firefox 2/3/4/5 and Safari.
SMTP Injection - an alternative to POP3 and IMAP 'sucking', SMTP injection enables you to specify a type of archive that only receives messages via an SMTP interface. This allows the automated forwarding of emails into the system from the source mailbox, with the advantage is that you don't need to share the account credentials with us.
This type of archive has no 'pull' schedule and cannot be combined with IMAP/POP3 service
It doesn't need to. All communications are with the email server, not the client.
Simple and easy - take a look at our Outlook set-up video
You can use the journaling feature built into Exchange - take a look at our Exchange Journaling set-up Video
It's a secret. Rest assured we do and it involves a lot of firewalls and very intelligent people who know a lot about network security.
You just need to tell us about your email server and provide us with the logins for the mailboxes you wish to archive. We do the rest. Archiving normally starts within 5 minutes of the mailbox being configured.
If it understands IMAP or POP3 protocols and we can access it over the Internet, yes.

No, only your server.
If you want secure transmission, make sure your enable SSL or TLS on your server and then tell MessageBunker to use those protocols. If you want to only allow MessageBunker access to your server through your firewall, make sure 85.119.249.* is allowed through ports 143, 110, 993 and 995.
By default we send you a weekly email activity report. You can elect to get this email daily, or not at all. If there is any kind of problem performing an archive, we'll send you an email detailing the problem.
Unfortunately we need the login details of each mailbox in order to access the content. If your server has the ability to create multiple credentials per mailbox, this may be a way around the issue. We do take exceptional measures to protect your details.
No. Unlike other solutions you retain ownership of your email; we are not a 'gateway' style service.
GMail users can use the Free service (up to 2GB), just so they can have another place to find important to when GMail goes down. Think of it as an additional 'offsite' backup for GMail.
Yes, you can specify alternative ports, even on a per-mailbox basis.
We currently support the following formats: .doc,.docx, .xls, .xlsx, .odt, .txt, .rtf, .html, .pdf , .zip, .pps, .ppt, .pptx, .xlr, .pages, .numbers, .dot and all text based formats such as .txt and .php. We are also able to parse TNEF format emails (also known as winmail.dat).
Please note we cannot and do not break any encryption or password protection on a file.
Security
Do you read my email? No. We've no reason to. Access to the actual messages is granted only to a small group of trusted team members for the purposes of server maintenance only.
Obviously this question comes up a lot. We are not new to the email field and have a massive combined
experience in email storage and network security. What's more, we want MessageBunker to be the best and
biggest archiving solution in the World and we won't achieve that by mucking about. We keep the precise
details of our network configuration and physical arrangements secret but we can tell you that your messages
are archived in a state-of-the-art data centre with a wide range of physical security measures such as
24/7 security, full-coverage CCTV and more. Access to the actual indexing systems and message
stores is limited to a small number of proven and trusted senior team members.
We can't expect to address your exact concerns in a couple of paragraphs, so please do contact us
with your questions.
Commercial
Do you provide a service level agreement (SLA) ? Why is it better than doing it in-house?It's cheap and it's easy. No (expensive) hardware to purchase, configure, install and maintain. No software to manage, no technical expertise to maintain the system. In the same way you wouldn't use your own generator to provide electricity to your office, there's little point in doing something as complex as archiving in-house either.
For legal purposes, MessageBunker is owned and operated by APM Internet Ltd, registered in England. MessageBunker is a registered trademark of APM Internet Ltd.
It depends where you are. For example a USA-based company that is openly traded on the stock market does require a solution. Check with your lawyers, or industry bodies.
Paid accounts are dealt with by our accredited partners. They will accept all popular credit and debit cards.
No, we are not a new company. MessageBunker is fully owned and operated by APM Internet Ltd, a email hosting provider based in the UK. We've been handling millions of emails daily since 2002.
