APM Internet re-brand as The Very Good Email Company

We hope most of you will now be aware that, at the beginning of September, APM Internet re-branded as The Very Good Email Company. To add a little more background to our decision to re-brand the company our very own ‘geek-in-chief’ Paul Evans has put together a short Blog post on our reasoning.

We very much hope you like the new name – certainly feedback to date has been extremely positive. If you do have any feedback – either on the new name, the new site, or our services in general we’d love to hear from you.

Snowshoe Spam

While filtering methods for spam are now quite effective, a new breed of spammers has evolved  and their spam evades many filters. It is time to target the next great spam problem; “snowshoe” spam.

Like a snowshoe spreads the load of a traveller across a wide area of snow, snowshoe spamming is a technique used by spammers to spread spam output across many IPs and domains, in order to dilute reputation metrics and evade filters.

Snowshoers use many fictitious business names, fake names and identities, and frequently changing postal dropboxes and voicemail drops. Conversely, legitimate mailers try hard to build brand reputation based on a real business address, a known domain and a small permanent range of sending IPs. Snowshoers often use anonymised or unidentifiable whois records, whereas legitimate senders are proud to provide their bona-fide identity.

As one of our spam filtering ‘layers’ we use the Spamhaus Project and we are using their recently introduced Spamhaus CSS – A dedicated Snowshoe component of the Spamhaus Block List.

Zimbra Silver Partner

In the last year we’ve launched our Zimbra email hosting and business collaboration solution. We’ve seen very significant levels of interest in this new service – and a large number of new customers. On the back of this we’re delighted to report that we are now an official Zimbra Silver Partner with all the benefits to service and support that enables for our customers.

MessageBunker

This unique web based email archiving service was launched over the summer and has proved to be a great tool for customers migrating to Zimbra (or for any email migration).

MessageBunker silently duplicates and stores every email and a Google-style interface enables users to search their archive and find relevant emails and attachments in seconds.  Found emails can be viewed instantly, downloaded, printed, or restored. In addition MessageBunker’s Time Travel utility enables users to see their inbox as it was at any point in time since archiving began via a webmail interface and download the entire package as a zip file if required.

As MessageBunker is a ‘cloud’ service there is no software client to install, or hardware to add to an office network – all the end user needs is access to a decent web browser.

The volume of email traffic continues to rise and legislation regarding business communications is becoming ever more stringent. Sooner, or later, all businesses will need to have some form of email archiving solution in place. Email archiving is one of those subjects that most of us would probably choose to ignore. It’s not sexy, it doesn’t appear to directly add revenue to your business and it’s just something else you simply haven’t got time to address. MessageBunker is the ideal solution.
